Amy Adams attended yesterday a Max Mara resort show in London, joined by now husband Darren Le Gallo on the front row for the catwalk show, and the pair chatted animatedly to Max Mara’s Director of European Retail Development, Nicola Gerber Maramotti. Nocturnal Animals

Focus Features has nabbed Tom Ford’s upcoming thriller Nocturnal Animals, the second feature film from the fashion designer-turned-filmmaker following 2009’s Oscar nominated A Single Man, Deadline reported. Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal are set to star.

Ford will write, direct and produce the film, which is based on Austin Wright’s novel “Tony and Susan.” Published in 1993, the book is described as follows.

Fifteen years ago, Susan Morrow left her first husband Edward Sheffield, an unpublished writer. Now, she’s enduring middle class suburbia as a doctor’s wife, when out of the blue she receives a package containing the manuscript of her ex-husband’s first novel. He writes asking her to read the book; she was always his best critic, he says.

As Susan reads, she is drawn into the fictional life of Tony Hastings, a math professor driving his family to their summer house in Maine. And as we read with her, we too become lost in Sheffield’s thriller. As the Hastings’ ordinary, civilized lives are disastrously, violently sent off course, Susan is plunged back into the past, forced to confront the darkness that inhabits her, and driven to name the fear that gnaws at her future and will change her life.

Production on Nocturnal Animals is planned to begin this fall. Focus will distribute the film in the U.S. with Universal Pictures handling international distribution.

Variety is reporting that Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal are in discussions to star in fashion designer Tom Ford’s thriller “Nocturnal Animals,” his second film as a director after 2009’s “A Single Man.”

This is in the early days as no financial offers have been made yet but insiders say it is headed in that direction, with Ford writing and directing, also producing along George Clooney through his Smokehouse Pictures banner.

Nocturnal Animals is based on the novel by Austin Wright titled Tony and Susan. The plot is described as a story inside a story, with the first part following a woman named Susan who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband, a man whom she left 20 years earlier, asking for her opinion. The second element follows the actual manuscript, called Nocturnal Animals, which revolves around a man whose family vacation turns violent and deadly. It also continues to follow the story of Susan, who finds herself recalling her first marriage and confronting some dark truths about herself.

Sources say actors were immediately drawn to the project when the script hit the market, and Adams aggressively pursued the part, as she was interested in the part of Susan, with Gyllenhaal pushing hard for the male lead.
