Amy was at last night’s 2008 National Board of Review Awards Gala. Doubt did not win any awards but Amy certainly looked stunning. Every time I see an appearance this year, I think “that’s my favorite look” – and then another appearance happens lol. Tons and tons of photos have been added so you can judge for yourself.

As Hollywood fairytales go, Amy Adams is certainly living one. Not too long ago she worked most nights in dinner theatres in the cultural backwaters of Colorado and Minnesota, singing and dancing to sparse audiences in stage productions of Annie and A Chorus Line. Before that, fresh out of high school and at the age of 17, Adams was earning $7 an hour as a hostess at a Hooters bar in Atlanta, Georgia. Today she is Hollywood’s “It Girl”, with an Oscar nomination on her resume for her breakthrough performance in Junebug, an independent film made for just $US1 million, and in a fortnight she will likely have a second nomination. Adams is expected to be honoured for her portrayal of a sweet, innocent nun in the drama Doubt, starring alongside Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman, which centres on whether Hoffman’s character is abusing a young boy in his parish. |

I’ve added the first batch of photos from last night’s Golden Globes to the gallery. Amy certainly looked stunning didn’t she? More photos will be added as I find them.

Amy Adams’ Golden Globes look is literally breathtaking. When she showed up, she owned the red carpet, and everyone after couldn’t live up to the hype. She became the night’s belle of the ball.
The way the ends of the skirt laid on the carpet made it look almost feathery and ethereal. Amy chose to pair the dress with just a pair of earrings and her hair done up loosely, but not messy — a distinction that many movie stars forget to make when it comes to this type of hairstyle. Any jewelry more than the earrings could have taken away from the dress’ innate glamour. Diamonds are usually a girl’s best friend, but not in this case. Amy wasn’t wearing a lot of makeup, either. In fact, it looked like she wasn’t wearing any. Perhaps she made this choice because she wanted to let the dress speak for itself. A dress like that has a lot to say — like “I am fabulous!” — and yes, it was. |

Amy did not win a Golden Globe for her performance in Doubt. Instead, the award went to another of my favorite actresses Kate Winslet. This was an extremely tough choice for me since I love both of them – and Marisa Tomei who was nominated for her role in The Wrestler. Amy looked utterly fantastic though and I can’t wait to start posting photos. |

It is getting on for four years since Amy Adams leapt to the top of Hollywood’s alphabet. In Junebug, playing a heavily pregnant, fast-talking Southern belle, she stole the show and, in the process, gained a surprising nomination for an Oscar. But it was no more than the actress, who is invariably described as “incredibly sweet” and “unbelievably wholesome”, deserved. Nor has it proved a flash in the pan. Since then Adams’s career has flourished like a hothouse flower. The past year, for example, has been phenomenal. In December 2007, she won the holiday-season laurels as Princess Giselle in Disney’s modern fairy tale, Enchanted, which took a staggering $340 million around the world. After that she played a sweet-natured secretary opposite Tom Hanks in Charlie Wilson’s War. Then came Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day, in which she co-starred with Frances Dormand as a dippy actress. Then she appeared on Vanity Fair’s radar, which put her on an autumn cover as one of the year’s top 10 “newcomers”. Then, to cap it all, her role in her latest film, Doubt, has just been rewarded with a nomination for a Golden Globe, Adams’s second such accolade. Little wonder, then, that she is so perky. As we enter a rather gloomy Los Angeles hotel suite, she requests that we sit by the window. “See, it’s much nicer,” she chirps, offering a sunbeam of a smile. “You get a view of the polluted skies and the construction cranes …” |
