Janis Joplin movie confirmed?
Posted by Lisa • 11 Comments »

If you visit the Amy Adams page on IMDb, you will see that Amy is now credited as Janis in the upcoming Janis Joplin: Get it While You Can. This alone does not a confirmation make. IMDb, while an excellent source of information and trivia, is notorious for getting projects that are in pre-production wrong. If you click on the link for the movie, it shows both Amy and Zooey Deschanel as having the part.

I did do some research though and found another interview with Wyck Godfrey. Like the one I previously posted, this one only has the briefest mention of the film and Amy’s connection to it. The full interview is posted here and you’ll want to fast forward to around the 09:45 mark to hear this: “I’ve got a Channing Tatum 10-year high school reunion movie that we’re working on that’s gonna be fun. We’re working on a Janis Joplin movie with Fernando Meirelles and Amy Adams. So we got a lot of things cooking.”

Confirmed? To be honest, I have no idea. But I will continue to search out more information and will share anything I find.

I have heard a while back that Zooey Deschanel was playing Janis Joplin, but I’m not sure if it is for the same project. From what I know financing has fallen through on that one, but who knows…? She’d make a fine Janis Joplin, too.

I’d wait for an official confirmation, just to be sure. While Wyck Godfrey is a producer and may know a few things, casting, filming, financing, scheduling and all sorts of stuff may change quickly. For all I know, Amy has been laying low & enjoying her time off since since she had the baby, and she never gave an exact time as to when she plans to continue working.

Those are all the thoughts that were running through my head Mac. I won’t be putting the project on the sidebar until we hear more but I did want to keep visitors informed of the little tidbits of news I’m finding.

What genre will this fall into? Action. Romance. All the above?

Imb is showing Amy and Zoe as Janis Joplin? Why not just Amy. Do not underestimate her singing ability. Bette Midler in The Rose, didn’t exactly sounded like Janis. What matters rest on the screenplay. Will it be any good? I hope that Amy will really look into a good script so her talent will not be wasted. I heard that the shooting will start in August but so surprising that Zoe has to be in it. I don’t like the idea..Please update us for more.

@Kel Definitely not action and probably not comedy. I imagine it will be a drama/musical.

@miss c Zoe was attached to a Janis Joplin movie for a very long time. Because IMDb is not very reliable when it comes to movies in pre-production, they could have Zoe listed incorrectly or Amy listed incorrectly. August seems awfully close to the birth of Aviana for Amy to be returning to work but women who aren’t actresses do it all the time.

So I guess we just need to be patient and wait for more news. I am checking and scouring google daily for anything new and as soon as I find something, it will be posted here.

I do hope this news is true. Would be lovely to see Amy return to some nice, heavy role she could really sink her teeth into. But like I said, better wait for an official announcement.

@Lisa – True, August seems rather soon for her to be coming back to work after she had a baby. Especially since Janis Joplin looks awfully skinny, messed up, wild – I’d imagine some physical preparation is needed along with the mental/psychological aspect, vocal coaching, etc. I hope that if Amy does end up with the role, the producers will give her ample time to prepare for it properly.

I can see the resemblance between Amy and Janis. With a little movie magic (make-up and wardrobe) I think she’ll pull it off. She looks more like Janis than Zooey does!

Amy is so closure to winning an academy award. This is the type of movie (if written and directed well) that could bring her that elusive oscar!

@Sharon I love that you posted photos for us to check out! Here’s one from Enchanting Images that has Amy clothes and hair close to the right era:

@Laura I totally agree. The Academy does love to award the true life stories if they are done well.

So they’re considering two of my faves, Amy Adams and Zooey Deschanel, for the part
of Janis. I don’t know if Amy can sing, but she
couldn’t be as far from Pearl as Bette middling was in the 1979 disaster. Zooey sings,
but not like Janis.

Maybe they’ll lipsinc the songs. Otherwise, Joss Stone or Grace Potter should get the
part.

I, like most males, am in love with Zooey Deschanel. But I can’t picture her as a Janis Joplin in any way.
