I am so excited about this project! Amy’s character is so unlike anything she’s ever played before. It’s going to be amazing, I just know it. Since I have not read the book (it’s still sitting in my to read pile), I don’t know how large of a role Amy will have. Can one of my awesome visitors enlighten us? Anyway, I’ve gathered some more tidbits of information to help tide us over until set photos come in.

Director: Walter Salles
Producer: Francis Ford Coppola
Cast: Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, Amy Adams, Viggo Mortensen.

On the Road is a novel by American writer Jack Kerouac, written in April 1951, and published by Viking Press in 1957. It is a largely autobiographical work that was based on the spontaneous road trips of Kerouac and his friends across mid-century America. It is often considered a defining work of the postwar Beat Generation that was inspired by jazz, poetry, and drug experiences. While many of the names and details of Kerouac’s experiences are changed for the novel, hundreds of references in On the Road have real-world counterparts.

When the book was originally released, The New York Times hailed it as “the most beautifully executed, the clearest and most important utterance” of Kerouac’s generation. The novel was chosen by Time magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005.

Do you have any idea of when they’ll start?

I just wish Kristen Stewart wasn’t in this. Can’t stand her.

@Priscila I read somewhere that filming started on August 2nd. Not sure when Amy begins filming her scenes though.

@Amber I actually like Kristen. Or I did before the Twilight hype (anyone who happens to follow my personal Twitter knows how much I despise Twilight lol). I thought she did really good in The Panic Room and The Messengers. I’m looking forward to the end of the Twilight craze so I can start to enjoy her work once again.

Without giving away too much of the movie, Amy has a supporting role but still an important one. She is playing the husband of Mortensen’s character who was the roomate of Riley’s character who is the main guy Kerouac i believe.

Can’t wait, and re the original post, i agree that its not like anything she’s done before but i can see the similarities with this and the Janis Joplin role (if that eventually happens afterall!) Can’t wait to see pictures :)

Amber I agree with ya! She sucks!!
Tiwilight movies junk!
Amy should not be in this movie at all I think.
She should do more lead roles.

unfortunately after an actress has a child or children the studios don’t take her as seriously for leading roles or get parts that were originally for other actresses who either pulled out or died before production like for example Joanne Woodward’s first film after her daughter Melissa was born was the stripper which had been a Marilyn Monroe vehicle until Marilyn died before production and all her pole dance/strip/nude scenes were Ok’ed by Paul or her first film after Claire was born was A Fine Madness with Sean Conery neither of which faired well at the box office so she left 20th century fox and went to warner brothers to make Rachel Rachel for which neither her or Paul took a paycheck because they wanted to make a film that stood the test of time

and as I said before even if she might be a supporting Character some award shows if the Character is big enough in the plot it’s considered a leading role therefore would be submitted for leading actress awards like the example I gave on the previous post of Alma Brown in Hud nominated for the supporting actress Film Drama Golden Globe and The Best Actress Oscar losing the golden globe but winning the oscar granted Patricia Neal missed both of those award shows due to pregnancy and the inability to travel

I read ON THE ROAD years ago, an excellent book and certainly more worthy of Amy’s talents than some of her other projects. I recall several women in it, but none important enough to be literally the heroine.
As a fan of hers since ENCHANTED, I am especially happy and hopeful for her because LEAP YEAr been the last picture she made for far too long.

On The Road is Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund’s characters’ movie. The female characters in the book are all relatively minor but they are important nonetheless. For those that aren’t aware, this movie has been years in the making. To the point where actors like Matthew McConaghey, Russell Crowe, Brendan Fraser, Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, etc all auditioned for roles when they were young.

Also, please don’t count out Kristen Stewart just yet. The Twilight films aren’t the only films she’s been in. She was wonderful in her smaller films like The Cake Eaters, Adventureland, Into the Wild and Speak among others. She was great also in The Runaways in which she played Joan Jett perfectly. She and Amy have similarities in that they are/were both playing iconic female rockers with many questioning the casting.

@Violet @Amber I would hope that you at least give Kristen a chance before discrediting her as I’m sure you would appreciate for people to do the same for Amy when she plays Janis.

http://kristenjstewart.net/?p=26823 If you understand something of portuguese, it’s really great to read it. I think Amy will start filming in 18th of September in Viesca if she hadn’t in Montreal.

Thank you Priscila for finding that article. Using my limited Portuguese and the Google translator, I have to agree with you on when and where Amy will be filming. Now let’s keep our fingers crossed for on the set pics!
