Oscars 2011: What’s Amy wearing?

Categories: Articles & Reviews

The Hollywood Reporter posted this a little while ago and I thought it was cute so I’m sharing it with you all.

Amy Adams received her third Academy Award nomination Tuesday for her performance in The Fighter, and she’s fairly certain about what she’s not going to wear when the big night rolls around.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m not gonna go with a pantsuit. I can’t guarantee it, but I’m pretty sure it will be a dress.”

The actress said she hadn’t started thinking of dress options before her nomination was announced because she’s superstitious and doesn’t like “count my chickens before they’re hatched.”

Adams reports to the set of The Muppets movie later today. The movie is being produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who garnered best picture noms for their work on The Fighter. “It’s going to be a ruckus evening on the set tonight,” Adams said excitedly.

The one posted previously was her official statement. This one comes from Entertainment Weekly and is a bit more fun.

Six years ago, Amy Adams was a little-known actress with a resume dotted with bit parts. Then came the indie Junebug, for which she was nominated for an Oscar, and her career quickly changed. With her salty performance as Micky Ward’s girlfriend in The Fighter, Adams nabbed her third nomination (following 2008?s Doubt) — capping a five-year run that landed her on the A-list. “I didn’t even think I’d ever have a national commercial, let alone three Oscar nominations,” says the 36-year-old actress. “It is insane. I don’t know exactly how I got here but I feel really fortunate to be here. And it’s a historic day because Christian Bale got nominated, finally.”

Though she played a princess in Enchanted, Adams isn’t opposed to a little boasting about her good fortune. “I am going to spend the day with the Muppets,” says Adams, who’s currently co-starring in Jason Segel’s project. “And I am going to gloat to Miss Piggy.”

Guardian article about Amy

A great new article/interview was posted on the Guardian today.

“Oh no, don’t be silly,” she says, “it’s all about my three weeks at Hooters. All anybody wants to know about is Hooters.” She lets rip an uproarious laugh. “I owe it all to the boob bar.”

It is uniquely satisfying to watch a Disney princess unfold herself on to a Beverly Hills balcony, stretch her pale limbs out beside the floral arrangements, and tell you how she used to beat the crap out of the boys at school. But then there is something uniquely satisfying about the whole career of Amy Adams, a 36-year-old American actor whose ability to move from adorable to angry, from ditzy to deathly, has seen her bash her charming way to becoming America’s new sweetheart. With two Oscar nominations already, for Junebug (a 2005 film in which she plays a naive young chatterbox who gives birth to a stillborn) and Doubt (where she and Meryl Streep are nuns who uncover a priest’s secret relationship), she may be about to hit third time lucky.

I really do not know where to begin when writing about my client and my friend Amy Adams. She is the client I have worked with the longest, almost 8 years now, and I feel like we have “grown up” in this business together. I met Amy on a photo shoot for GQ magazine back in 2002, and I loved her immediately. We were shooting in the middle of the night at a bus stop on Fairfax Avenue and to pass the time, keep warm, and keep spirits up Amy and I were sneaking shots of tequila between set ups and telling funny stories from our pasts. Throughout the years, Amy has kept me busy woking on the most enviable mane of hair I have ever seen and she’s kept me laughing with her insane sense of humor and some of my favorite moments have been impromptu sing alongs to the soundtrack of The Little Mermaid.

Amy was one of the first people who agreed to do a photo shoot for this project and when we talked about her look for the shoot she said she always wanted to have “wispy, layered hair” and wanted to play with bangs so I got a few wigs for us to play with. Amy is naturally blonde, but I love her as a red head, she has experimented with many different shades from deep red to strawberry and she has also been pretty bold with her hair cuts, she will grow it until she can’t take it anymore and then go for a big chop, cutting it to her shoulders.

Style Guide – Amy’s Golden Globe updo

Allure talked to Amy’s hairstylist about how to achieve the perfect updo look for the red carpet.

There’s a fine line when it comes to award-show updos: too stiff, and it merits prom comparisons; too loose, and you’re a bobby-pin-slip away from a red-carpet disaster. Amy Adams’s Golden Globes hairstyle struck the perfect balance. “It’s all about getting the right texture so that the hair holds,” said Laini Reeves, co-owner of Essensuals London Salon in L.A., who did Adams’s hair for the big event. “We went for a soft, 1920s look.”

Reeves asked Adams (who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for The Fighter) to shampoo and condition her hair, so it was air-drying when she arrived. “Amy has an extraordinary amount of hair that has a nice, natural wave, so I put a little of Moroccanoil’s Hydrating Styling Cream in it while it was drying,” Reeves explained. “The cream keeps the hair from being too clean and slippery.” She let Adams’s hair air-dry the whole way, except for the roots—she used a blow-dryer there. Then she wrapped medium-size sections around the barrel of a 1-inch curling iron. She loosely braided the hair, leaving a few pieces out to frame Adams’s face. “I rolled the end of the braid over until it reached the nape of her neck,” Reeves said, using only “about five thick bobby pins” to secure the style. For the two hanging pieces, Reeves pin-curled them in “S” shapes to create a pretty bend, then misted Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray all over. As Reeves put it, “Amy was on cloud nine!”

Amy’s Top 5 Films

I’m going to take a small break from all this award show madness and post a great interview that one of my visitors emailed me the link to. It’s from back in early December and Amy lists her five favorite movies. I have to say that she lists five of some of my favorites as well – especially The Shawshank Redemption.

Much like her wayward Disney princess in Enchanted, it’s pretty damn impossible not to like Amy Adams immediately upon meeting her. But in David O. Russell’s heavy-hitting drama The Fighter, Adams has to play hard and more than a little rough as Charlene, boxer Mickey Ward’s (Mark Wahlberg) girlfriend and scorn of his pugilistic clan — including his volatile older brother, Dicky Edlund (Christian Bale).

“I have so much affection for David [O. Russell],” Adams says of her sometimes-notorious director, who sought her for the role. “I’m so appreciative that he met me and he was able to see Charlene. So many times in the past a director’s been like, “Can you play tough?”, and I can’t really answer that, because if I answer politely then they’re gonna think I’m not tough, and if I answer like, “Hell yeah I can play tough!”, it doesn’t really work. David got it.”

LA Times article and photoshoot

LA Times posted a great new article about Amy that included a gorgeous new photoshoot as well. There’s only one photo for now but I will keep checking my sources for any more that may surface. You can read a blurb from the article below and you can read it in its entirety after the cut or at the source.

“I understand how people find the commonalities in the characters I’ve played,” she says. “But I never thought I was stuck in a rut, so I didn’t feel like there was anything to get out of.”

In fact, when Russell gave her 20 pages of “The Fighter” to read, he didn’t ask her to audition.

“I love auditioning, actually. [But] sometimes when you have to really prove [yourself], you’re now acting for the wrong reasons. You’re not just interested in playing the character. And him never doubting that I could be Charlene was huge,” she notes.

Amy Adams: from princess to one tough mother

Amy Adams is a changed woman. As she sits down at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles, the flame-haired star seems to be more relaxed than ever and she’s the first to admit it.

“I definitely do feel different,” she says. “I used to be very mindful and careful about what I said, particularly during interviews, but now I’ll just say exactly what’s on my mind.”

Things have changed dramatically for the 36-year-old star since she became a mother to Aviana in May.

Amy talks ‘The Fighter’ and being a mom

TheStir posted a short but great article about Amy. A short blurb is below and you can read the full thing after the cut or at the source.

Her character is quite the little badass, a far cry from previous characters that she’s played, such as Giselle in Enchanted, and I can’t help but wonder which kind of character she relates to more. “It depends on the day you ask me! Or the time of the day!” she laughs. “I can be pretty tough. I try to have a good attitude most of the time but, yeah, I can be tough if need be.”
