This just in — three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams will play journalist Lois Lane in Hollywood’s revival of “Superman.”

The 36-year-old star got the news on Sunday from director Zack Snyder, who phoned her from Paris, where he was promoting his just-opened film, “Sucker Punch.” There had been a crush of Hollywood interest in the lead female role in the Warner Bros. project but Snyder said that after meeting with Adams, she was the clear choice to take on a character that dates back to 1938 and has long represented the strong, professional woman who can hold her own against any man – even if he can leap tall buildings in a single bound.

The Mtv Movie Awards are coming up and Mtv has posted their list of potential nominees. Visitors can vote for their favorites and I assume the winning five or six will be the ones officially nominated when that announcement is made. Amy is on the list three times: once for best kiss, once for best fight, and once for best female performance – all for her role in The Fighter. Click here to vote!

The award for best supporting actress was just announced with the win going to Melissa Leo for her role in The Fighter. Congratulations to Melissa for her win. Someday Amy will be on that stage accepting an award – I just know it!

Good news for those of us who don’t like going to the video store! I just received an email from Stephanie at The Lippin Group letting me know that not only will The Fighter be available on DVD and BluRay on March 15th, but it will also be available via movies on demand the same day. Thank you Stephanie for letting us know.

The BAFTA award for best actress in a supporting role was just announced with the win going to Helena Bonham Carter for her role in The King’s Speech. I was really hoping Amy would win this one since she wasn’t competing against Melissa Leo but a big congratulations to Helena all the same.

A release date of March 15, 2011 has been set for The Fighter on DVD and BluRay. The special features are listed below.

I just received an email from the folks at Warner Brothers letting me know that Amy is scheduled to be on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this Friday, February 4th. Ellen is my favorite daytime talk show and her interviews with guests are usually funny and a bit different than you normally see. I can’t wait to see this!

The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are airing right now and the award for best perfomance by an actress in a supporting role has just been announced with Amy’s co-star Melissa Leo winning. Melissa was the favorite so this comes as no real surprise, although I of course was cheering for Amy. Congratulations to Melissa!

The Academy Award nominations for best supporting actress have just been announced and Amy has been nominated for her performance in The Fighter. She once again shares the category with her co-star Melissa Leo. This of course is the third nomination for Amy. She was previously nominated for Junebug and Doubt.

The folks over at PopSugar (who I’m really beginning to love btw) will be broadcasting the upcoming Academy Award nominations streaming live. Amy is all but a shoe-in for her third nomination for best supporting actress so I know I’ll be watching. The nominations are being announced this coming Tuesday, January 25th at 5:30am PST (1:30pm GMT). As with the Critics’ Choice live feed, I am posting the code after the cut. For now, it will just show a static image but once the event starts, it should start broadcasting the announcement ceremony.
